Giuseppe Marinoni arrived in Quebec the first time in 1965 at the age of 27 to participate in the Tour of Lac-Saint-Jean as runner. It was after the race that the organizer of the event, Federico Corneli, suggested that he stay in Quebec longer. It was during this period that he met his future wife, Simonne. It is by disdain for his tailoring work that he reoriented himself in the manufacture of bicycles and then went back to Italy to learn how to make frames of steel bicycles under the wing of Mario Rossin. Upon his return, he founded Cycles Marinoni which some consider one of the first bike manufacturers in Canada.
