The Stelbel Strada Super is a classic road frame for modern groupsets; a new model that has roots planted deep within the history of the brand. The Strada Super model is an evolution of the Strada model; easy to mount with a modern groupset and outfitted with fully internal cable routing. Just like the mid-80s Strada Super was made.
In the early 80s, the iconic Integrale model was replaced by the Strada model; an necessary evolution to maintain compatibility with new technologies and components, but with the primary focus on the rear spacing, allowing for freewheels with an increased number of cogs. As a result of the evolution of the Strada model, the Stelbel catalogue during that period offered a number of very ambitious variations on this model. The result of these various was the Strada Super model, which was a combination of distinctive and innovative solutions implemented to achieve a minimal and clean design. This was achieved by making all cable routing internal.
The new Strada Super model has the same philosophy; it can be mounted with modern 11-speed groupsets and mechanical shifters, with completely internal cable routing.
The result is the synthesis of two types of cycling. The modern Strada Super maintains a classic look, much appreciated by fans of steel frames, at the same time combining functionality and modern mechanics to ensure excellent performance and an extremely wide range of use.
Like all other models in the classic Stelbel range, the frames are TIG welded using the latest generation of Columbus SL niobium steel with a standard diameters (25,4 mm – 28,6 mm).
The Strada Super model comes with a classic fork that has the traditional 45mm rake and fits a 1” threaded headset. A faithful replica of the distinctive Stelbel fork; made in-house by welding together steel tubing, without the use of a pre-fabricated fork crown. Even today, this design is recognised as an incredible technological and mechanical achievement. Stelio managed to design and produce a fork in-house that was much stronger, more rigid and at the same time lighter than any other fork available on the market at the time.
The dropouts have a classic design and are punched with the “Stelbel” logo, and can fit up to an 11-speed cassette. The dropouts have also been chrome plated, as opposed to painted, ensuring a more durable surface area where contact with the rear hub is made.
Because it is a true replica, the frame is embellished with all the details that other Stelbel frames presented during that period. The head tube is pantographed with the “Stelbel” name, and features the distinctive engraved “S” on the fork crown; typical on frames built in the mid-80s, and a different style compared to the 70s models.
